In general it does not work through a VPN, so use the Ethernet Devices driver and append ":EIP" to the IP address of the 1756-EN2T so that RSLinx Classic doesn't have to probe to figure out the protocol and device type. The EtherNet/IP driver in RSLinx Classic uses a broadcast packet to browse. Maybe the VPN gives you an IP address that isn't on the same subnet as the -EN2T modules, so they need to be configured to talk via a router to your network. One last question, enabling the EtherNet/IP driver for the ethernet port will still allow it to talk to the PLC via Df1 right? It won't be expecting to communicate to the PLC with EtherNet/IP? Sorry if that doesn't sound right, just want to make sure in my pursuit of convenience I don't ruin our current functionality.It's possible that this is a problem with the default gateway on the 1756-EN2T modules. I don't know of a way to re-enable the EtherNet/IP driver if it doesn't exist in the driver configuration, other than to download a new configuration over DF1 (or an SD card ? Can you do that on PV800 ?) or reset the terminal to defaults, which should leave it set up with Ethernet and DF1. Yeah, we could have just used FTP or another file transfer protocol that never shuts off. The Ethernet driver needs to be loaded and running in order to do an upload/download. it's possible it got loaded with a configuration that omitted an Ethernet driver. You mentioned that it shows a DF1 driver so.
